Euro-Matic produces hollow plastic bodies, especially balls, using extrusion blow molding , a widely used and proven method in plastics processing. This article explains the manufacturing process in detail and analyzes the technological features that contribute to the quality and precision of our products.
The principle of extrusion blow molding
Extrusion blow molding is a thermoplastic process for producing hollow plastic bodies. In the core process, a tubular preform, the so-called Parison, is formed by extruding polymer granules. This preform is then introduced into a molding cavity, where it expands by blowing in air and takes on its final geometry. This process can be divided into three main steps:
- Heating and molding the polymer: The starting material, a polymer in granulate form, is converted into a flowable, viscous mass in the extruder by a combination of thermal energy and mechanical pressure. This viscoelastic phase enables precise shaping in the following process step.
- Shaping the preform: The extruded parison is transported to the blow mold where it is forced into the mold walls by controlled air pressure. This step is critical for the structural integrity and wall thickness distribution of the final product.
- Fixation and cooling: The material hardens through thermal dissipation via the mold cavity, stabilizing the molecular structure and giving the plastic its final mechanical properties. Once the dimensionally stable phase is reached, the finished product is removed from the mold.
materials science aspects
The selection of the appropriate polymer is central to the extrusion blow molding process. At Euro-Matic, we prefer to use LDPE, HDPE and PP due to their optimal melt viscosity and mechanical properties, which are essential for the production of hollow bodies. These materials are sourced from leading manufacturers such as MOL, BASF and Borealis to ensure consistently high quality.
Technological innovations at Euro-Matic
Our production facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art, self-developed equipment based on an advanced extrusion blow molding process. This technological optimization enables us to produce balls in a wide range of sizes (6,9 mm to 225 mm diameter) that meet the highest standards of precision and durability.
quality control and sustainability
In our highly automated production, all manufactured products undergo rigorous quality controls that exceed industry standards. The balls undergo cyclic loading tests in which they are compressed to half their original diameter 20.000 times. Only products that pass this extreme test are released.
Our company also places great emphasis on sustainable production practices. Production waste is minimized by recycling excess material and returning it to the production cycle. This approach not only helps conserve resources, but also promotes economic efficiency.
With an annual production of up to 100 million balls, Euro-Matic is one of the leading manufacturers in this segment, with each batch meeting the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
